Compound Name Of K+ And Cl-?
Compound name of k+ and Cl-?
Good Day...
K+ is known as potassium ion (metal)
Cl- is known as chlorine ion (non metal)
When metal is bonded with nonmetal, the type of bond produced is ionic bond. Compound bonded by ionic bond is known as IONIC COMPOUND.
The name of the compound is Potassium Chloride.
In chemical reaction, potassium losses 1 electrons in order the have the same electron configuration of the nearest noble gas Argon making its charged positive having more protons than electrons. Chlorine on the other hand will gain 1 electron in order to have the same electron configuration of the nearest noble gas Argon. It charge will be negative having more electrons than protons. Positive charge potassium and negative charged chlorine will be attracted electrostatically creating ionic bond forming a new ionic compound known as Potassium Chloride.
Hope it helps.....=)
